MPT Weightage: 5–7 Marks  ·  Difficulty: Medium  ·  Confirmed Past Papers: 2022 · 2023 · 2024 · 2025

Trend Alert. Vitamins (Scurvy → C, Rickets → D, Night Blindness → A, Clotting → K) are tested every single paper. Malaria = Protozoan Parasite (not virus/bacteria) is the highest-frequency trap in Biology. Guava as richest Vitamin C source, Islets of Langerhans in Pancreas, and Eustachian Tube in Ear have all appeared in 2024–2025.

Vitamin C Trap. FPSC asks 'richest source of Vitamin C' and lists Orange vs Guava. Orange is the common expectation. Guava contains 3–4 times more Vitamin C per gram than citrus fruits. Always choose Guava when it appears as an option alongside Orange.

Fat vs Water-Soluble Trap. Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K — remember 'ADEK') are stored in the liver and fat tissue. Water-soluble vitamins (B group, C) CANNOT be stored — excess is excreted in urine. This distinction appeared as a statement question in MPT 2024: 'Water-soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body' = TRUE.

3. Pathogen Classification Matrix

Pathogen TypeCharacteristicsDiseasesTreatment
VirusNon-living; needs host cell to replicatePolio, Influenza, Measles, Hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, DengueVaccines (cannot use antibiotics)
BacteriaLiving single-celled organismsTyphoid, Tetanus (Lockjaw), Anthrax, Plague, CholeraAntibiotics effective
Protozoan ParasiteComplex single-celled animalMalaria (Plasmodium)Anti-malarial drugs (not antibiotics)
FungusMulti-cellular; spore-formingRingworm, Athlete's FootAntifungal agents

Malaria Trap (highest-frequency in Biology). Malaria is caused by Plasmodium — a Protozoan Parasite. It is NOT a virus. It is NOT a bacterium. The Female Anopheles Mosquito is only the vector (carrier/mode of transport) — not the cause. When asked 'What causes Malaria?' → Plasmodium. When asked 'What transmits Malaria?' → Female Anopheles Mosquito.

7. Practice MCQs (FPSC Level)

Part A — Basic Recall (Q1–Q4)

Direct recall on confirmed past-paper facts.

Which of the following diseases is caused by a virus?

    Show explanation

Polio is caused by the Poliovirus. Typhoid = Salmonella Typhi (Bacterium). Tetanus = Clostridium tetani (Bacterium). Anthrax = Bacillus anthracis (Bacterium).

Trap: All three distractors are bacterial — only Polio is viral.

    MPT 2023

The Islets of Langerhans are located in the:

      Show explanation

The Islets of Langerhans are clusters of cells within the Pancreas. Beta cells produce Insulin; Alpha cells produce Glucagon. Their failure causes Diabetes Mellitus.

Trap: Liver/Spleen/Kidney are nearby abdominal organs used as distractors.

      MPT 2024

Scurvy is caused by a severe deficiency of:

        Show explanation

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is essential for collagen synthesis. Deficiency causes Scurvy — bleeding gums, slow wound healing, loose teeth.

Trap: This is one of the most-repeated MPT questions.

        MPT 2022

The Eustachian Tube is an anatomical part of the:

          Show explanation

The Eustachian Tube connects the middle ear to the nasopharynx (back of throat). It equalizes air pressure on both sides of the eardrum — explaining why ears 'pop' during altitude changes.

          MPT 2025

          Part B — Trap-Based (Q5–Q10)

FPSC traps that exploit common misconceptions.

          Malaria is caused by a:

            Show explanation

Malaria is caused by Plasmodium — a Protozoan Parasite (complex single-celled animal). The mosquito is only the vector.

Trap: Viruses and bacteria are entirely different categories of pathogen — yet students assume malaria is viral or bacterial.

            MPT 2023 (Elite Trap)

The richest source of Vitamin C among the following is:

              Show explanation

Guava contains approximately 228 mg of Vitamin C per 100 g, compared to ~53 mg in Orange.

Trap: FPSC exploits the common assumption that citrus = highest Vitamin C.

              MPT 2024 (Repeated)

Which of the following statements about vitamins is CORRECT?

                Show explanation

Water-soluble vitamins (B group, C) dissolve in water and cannot be stored in the body — excess is excreted in urine.

Trap: Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) ARE stored in fat tissue and liver — option A reverses this.

                MPT 2024

Failure of the Islets of Langerhans would most directly result in:

                  Show explanation

The Islets of Langerhans produce Insulin. Without Insulin, blood glucose cannot enter cells → blood glucose rises uncontrolled → Diabetes Mellitus.

Trap: Cause-and-effect logic trap — students must follow the chain from organ → hormone → disease.

Anaemia is primarily associated with a deficiency of:

                    Show explanation

Iron is essential for producing Hemoglobin. Without adequate Iron, hemoglobin levels drop → less oxygen transported → Anemia symptoms (fatigue, pallor, breathlessness).

                    MPT 2023

A deficiency of Iodine in the diet most directly causes:

                      Show explanation

Iodine is essential for the Thyroid gland to produce the hormone Thyroxine. When iodine is deficient, the thyroid gland enlarges abnormally in an attempt to compensate — this swelling is called Goitre.

Trap: Anaemia = Iron; Rickets = Vitamin D; Night Blindness = Vitamin A — all classic mineral/vitamin deficiency mismatches.

                      Part C — Elite Simulation (Q11–Q14)

Multi-statement reasoning at full FPSC difficulty.

In malaria: (1) Plasmodium is the causative organism. (2) Female Anopheles mosquito is the vector. (3) The disease is viral in origin. Which are correct?

                        Show explanation

                        (1) TRUE — Plasmodium is the causative organism. (2) TRUE — Female Anopheles is the vector. (3) FALSE — Malaria is caused by a Protozoan Parasite, not a virus.

Trap: Antibiotics do not treat malaria. Statement 3 is the deliberate trap.

Which combination of vitamin deficiency and disease is CORRECTLY matched? (1) Vitamin A → Night Blindness. (2) Vitamin C → Scurvy. (3) Vitamin D → Rickets.

                          Show explanation

All three are correct: Vitamin A → Night Blindness (Rhodopsin cannot be produced). Vitamin C → Scurvy. Vitamin D → Rickets (calcium cannot be absorbed from the gut).

Trap: All-correct trap — psychology pushes students away from choosing D.

                          MPT 2025

An antioxidant is a substance that:

                            Show explanation

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals — unstable molecules that damage cells and DNA. They 'donate' an electron to stabilize the free radical without becoming harmful themselves.

                            MPT 2023

Which of the following is CORRECTLY matched? (1) Polio — Viral. (2) Typhoid — Bacterial. (3) Tetanus — Bacterial.

                              Show explanation

All three are correct: Polio is caused by Poliovirus. Typhoid by Salmonella Typhi (bacterium). Tetanus by Clostridium tetani (bacterium found in soil and rust).

Trap: FPSC confirms all three — another all-correct trap.
